Event: Hike at Jackson Falls
Where: Located on the Natchez Trace Parkway at milepost 404.7
When: Sunday, Sept.
24, 2023 at 2pm

Approx 1hr drive from Brentwood. Meet in field near parking Lot. We will meet briefly as a Pack then divide into groups by rank. All family members are welcome to attend, but the falls area might be difficult to climb around with a very small child.

DRESS: Wear pack t-shirt, bathing suit or shorts that can get wet, shoes that are comfortable for walking but can get wet.

BRING: In a bag that can be carried by your scout, the Cub Scout 6 Essentials of Hiking - sun protection, water, snack, first aid kit, whistle, and flashlight, which will be part of the adventure your scout will do on the hike. You may also want to bring bug spray, a towel and dry change of clothes for post hike. The longest of the 2 hike routes will take about an hour, but that does not include time playing at the falls. You may want to pack a lunch depending on how long you would like to stay and play.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The bathroom facility *may* be closed (it has been in the past). There are no restaurants or stores close to the falls, so prepare accordingly.

HIKE ROUTE: We will first gather as a Pack in the big field next to the parking area, then split up by rank level for two different hike routes to spread out but to also provide a longer hike opportunity to older scouts. If you have a younger scout and only one adult can attend the hike, you must go with your younger scout to the falls and confirm with the older scout’s hike leader that your older scout will hike to the Baker Bluff Overlook without you. You will meet up again at the falls. Parental supervision is required for all scouts at all times while at the falls portion of the hikes.

Lions, Tigers, and Wolves – Hike to Jackson Falls: from the parking area, hiking south (to the right) down a steep (but paved) path 900 feet long that takes you to a clear pool at the base of the falls. Once you reach the falls, hikers can climb up or down on somewhat rugged terrain to explore different levels of the falls. The upper falls include a smooth area that can be used as a natural rock slide. Parental supervision is required for your scout at all times. Younger siblings will need very close supervision.

Bears, Webelos I, and Arrow of Light – Hike to Baker Bluff Overlook then Jackson Falls: From the parking area next to the bathroom facility and picnic area, hiking north (to the left) 1/4 mile takes you to a viewpoint 300 feet above the Duck River and another 1/2 mile to the Baker Bluff Overlook site. Round trip back to parking lot, and then hike to Jackson Falls (see above).
