Purpose of Scouting

Scouting can help each child enhance relationships with their families while developing strong and desirable traits of character, citizenship, and physical and mental fitness.  Scouting also provides children with leadership opportunities and helps them develop habits and attitudes of good citizenship.

Cub Scouting is a family program, and parental help is the key to a successful Cub Scout. Scouts need their parents’ help with achievements, electives and activity badges.

As a family program, parents and siblings (both older, and younger, boys and girls) are welcome to attend any meeting or outing (unless otherwise restricted by the venue).

The BSA defines the following purposes of Cub Scouting:

  • Character Development

  • Spiritual Growth

  • Good Citizenship

  • Sportsmanship and Fitness

  • Family Understanding

  • Respectful Relationships

  • Personal Achievement

  • Friendly Service

  • Fun and Adventure

  • Preparation for Boy Scouts
